Archery also commonly known as the bow and arrow was discovered more than 2000 years back. The first archaeological finding on archery (stone arrow) was found in Africa which dates back to early 50,000 BC. It is believed that bow was the first machine built by humans, which could store energy. Till date, it follows the same principle that the archer transfers his muscle energy into the bow with help of the string and then the bowstring passes on the power to the arrow and gives it a tremendous speed. This force have a vital impact on any pray or enemy.
For many years, bow was one of the most popular weapons used in warfare. Various archaeological findings reveal the the Egyptians used the bow against the Persians around 5,000 BC. Many kings in the history conquered lands with the help of skilled archers.
Archery also boasts of a long cherished history as a sport, and it was part of the Olympic Games in 1900, 1904, 1908 and 1920. The rise in the popularity of archery led to the foundation of the International Archery Federation – FITA in 1931. Since then, archery has grown both far and wide. After 1972, Target Archery was once again part of the Olympics. Archery can be practiced in many forms. However, Target Archery, Field Archery and 3-D Archery are the most common styles of Archery. Another branch of the sport is the flight shooting and it exits on shooting an arrow as long as possible.
