Do you know how many NCAA teams have won the men and women basketball championships? It is as interesting as the teams that are on the list, and the teams that are not. When we talk about Men championship, powerhouse Duke has won three men's championship, but the female counterparts have lost both NCAA championships.

On the other hand, the Tennessee women's basketball team has won eight NCAA championships, and their male counterparts has not even reach the NCAA tournament championship. Here is the list of schools that have won championships in both the men's and women's tournaments:

Connecticut Huskies

They have won 13 out of 27 NCAA women's basketball tournaments. Uconn has won 5 championship, beating Tennessee four times. Most of us don't even know that Lady Huskies have not lost a single NCAA championship game.

Although, less successful than the female team, the male Huskies have won multiple NCAA championships. The team has also not lost any NCAA championship game.

Maryland Terrapins

The Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team won its first NCAA tournament in its second consecutive trip to the NCAA final four. The game was against Indiana Hoosiers, the winner of five national titles.

The lady Maryland Terrapins also has a historic victory, when it needed another OT to win its first NCAA championship in 2006. The team was 13 points down to the Duke Blue Devils, and rallied back to won in OT, 78-75. The team was 6-0 in overtime games during the season, which included five away games and the NCAA championship.

North Carolina Tar Heels

The Men's North Carolina Tar Heels has appeared in NCAA championship 8 times, and has won 4 NCAA championships. Some of the famous players of the team include:
  • Vince Carter
  • Billy Cunningham
  • Bobby Jones
  • Tyler Hansborough

  • Rasheed Wallace
There are several NCAA colleges and universities, that have won either a men's or a women's championship, but these three teams have won both.
