During the initial growing period, the training period of young athlete is referred as as General Preparatory or GPP phase. In this phase the primary focus is aptitude development. The growth that involves both movement-based skills and strength-based exercises should be involved during this development. Activities like jumping, throwing, linear and lateral motion progressions all help in improving the overall development of aptitude.
The main question that may arise in our mind is, how to start the process of movement habits? If the audience mainly comprise of athletes within the age group of 6 to 7 year old, then its necessary to adopt a progression template to work. The next step is to check the overall progress of movement skill. The first step is to assign certain break key points with respect to the movement skill. Make sure to start with easy to remember step so that they can easily learn and recite. Following are some of the basic points that young athletes can learn with respect to the movement skill:
- First bend your knees and then drop your hips
- Try standing on a flat foot or slightly on the ball of the foot
- When you stand make sure that the toe/foot of the decelerating leg should be square in accordance with the angle of the body.
- The placement of the foot must be outside the box drawn on the floor. In case, the placement is too close to the line can result in poor deceleration and potential injury.
Once the young learners understand these points move on to the next level i.e. statically, dynamically and randomly.
The statically phase involves forming different athletic position upon command. Once you are sure that young patients are through with this phase move to the nest phase called dynamically. In this phase, the athletes are asked to perform one or two moderately paced side shuffles before hitting on the decelerating position. Final phase is known as randomly. Under this procedure, try creating new games or situations which athletes can react as per a particular signal and accordingly move to a different directions.
