A lot of people have different types of hobbies. Do you know the fact that making an archery bow also has found its place in some of the most exciting hobbies, both for the adults as well as kids...

So for all those people out there who want to fulfill their childhood fantasies by pretending to be Robin Hood gallivanting through the forest can now easily undertake this role of making archery bows, so that you become the Robin Hood of your own life... The fact is that in oder to craft a perfect as well as a high quality archery bow, then you need to have a lot of skills and practice. But the fact is that the whole procedure of crafting a bow and then using it for various purposes can prove to very rewarding in the end. And, if you want to get indulged in the process of hunting game, then imagine taking a deer(fake one of course) or other game down with it.

The  biggest advantage is that there are a diverse variety of materials that are available in the market and you can choose from all of them when making an archery bow. Let me give you an example... Why don't you go with bamboo? The fact that you can make a bow out of bamboo, yew or ash, to name a few. It totally depends on you as to what kind of material you want to choose for the bow and whatever your preference is, although some woods tend to work better or worse than others.

When I made my first bow, I made of yew wood , and the bow was perfect! Trust me... Lets take a look at some of the steps that you would require in order to build your own archery bow.
  • First, make sure that you have all the proper tools: a sharp axe, sharp object like a medium sized knife, some fairly rigid string and a piece of yew wood.
  • The next step is to carve your yew wood so it begins to take the shape a boomerang.
  • Now, the next step would be to wax the string (rawhide will work very well)
  • You now need to make arrows to use with your archery bow.
  • The most important thing to note is that these arrows must properly fit your bow.
  • Now the question comes that how will you string your bow in a proper manner?  You will need to carve 2 notches at each end of the bow, and then proceed to loop your string around both ends of it.
